Wally Bock's Supervisory Leadership Tips
The Dinosaur Principle

You have seen them in the movies, and you have seen their skeletons in natural history museums. Those T-Rex dinosaurs were big, big, big. And they had an attitude.

In Jurassic Park, when they showed up they made the earth tremble, and looked like they were going to eat not only humans, but the SUV the humans were riding in. Problems are a lot like that. When they show up big and with an attitude, they can ruin not only your whole day, but your whole career.

But even in prehistoric times, there was a way that the weak little humans could kill the dinosaur and it can be a model for helping you deal with your problems. The trick is to handle them when they are small.

If that dinosaur is just a dinosaur egg, you can stop it flat in an instant. Baby dinosaurs are small, not all that cunning, and maybe don't have as many teeth. You can handle them.

If you are a supervisor, catch your problems early and kill them when they are small. That's the best way to head off any possibility that one of those huge T-Rex problems with an attitude will show up and ruin your day and maybe more.
